Denetra Hampton is the founder of For Nurses By Nurses Productions, a media platform committed to empowering the role of the nurse scientist and helping bridge the gap of health disparities. Denetra is a retired Naval Nurse Corps Officer of 22 years, a filmmaker, a philanthropist, a nurse storyteller and a renowned historian.  

In this episode, Denetra discusses the incident in 2019 that called her to become a filmmaker… her latest film, “The Dixie 3: A Story on Civil Rights in Nursing” about Mildred Smith, Patricia Taylor McKenzie, and Agnes Stokes Chisman, nurses who stood up for themselves and for all African American nurses… how being an African American woman is a part of her own story as a leader, storyteller, and educator… the profound influence of her mother in her life… her Naval career… stories as a form of healing and mental health… and the importance of looking within and authentically believing in yourself.
